Content Policy

Cinema is a home for independent film — including difficult, adult, and challenging work. The deal is simple: label it honestly, and it finds its audience. Mislabel it, and it comes down.

01 — Never allowed

These come down on sight, no strikes, and where the law requires it we report to authorities:

Any sexual content involving minors, real or depicted. Zero tolerance; reported to NCMEC.
Non-consensual intimate content of any kind.
Content that incites violence against people or groups.
Documentary footage of real death or severe violence presented for shock.
Content you don't hold the rights to — piracy, unlicensed music, stolen work.

02 — Allowed with an honest rating

Nudity, sexuality, violence, profanity, and drug use are part of cinema. They're welcome here inside a film — rated honestly so the age gate can do its job. Viewers must be signed in with a verified age of 18+ to play anything rated R, NC-17, or TV-MA.

Mild peril, mild language. Nothing a parent would pause.

PG-13

13+

Moderate violence, brief strong language, implied sexuality, mature themes.

18+ on Cinema

Strong violence, pervasive language, sexuality without explicit detail, drug use.

NC-17

18+ on Cinema

Explicit sexual content or extreme violence in a legitimate artistic context.

TV-MA

18+ on Cinema

Series equivalent of R/NC-17. The default rating for new uploads — lower it only if your film qualifies.

03 — The attestation

Every publish requires the creator to attest that they own or have licensed all rights, the film contains no illegal content, and the selected rating is accurate. That attestation is stored with a timestamp. Misrating a film to dodge the age gate is treated the same as uploading banned content.

04 — Enforcement

First mislabel: the film is unlisted, you're asked to fix the rating.
Repeat mislabels: uploads suspended.
Banned content: immediate removal and account termination — no strikes.
Every viewer report is reviewed by a human. Automated screening may unlist a title pending review; a person always makes the final call.

05 — Reporting

Every film page has a report flag. Reports go straight to the moderation queue. For rights claims (your work uploaded by someone else), report with the reason "illegal content" and include details, or write to rights@cinema.film. For anything urgent: safety@cinema.film.
